Why single sign-on saves your time

Nothing is more coipad convenient management toolnvenient than NOT having to do stuff, right? Single sign-on, SSO, is a technology which allows users who are already logged in to their computers to use third party applications without having to enter their user name and passwords all over again. A small perk, but it saves a lot of time.

For users and IT departments alike, single sign-on offers many benefits. Once enabled, it allows easy provisioning of users. Even if a new employee has never logged in to the various services that you are using, he or she will get instant access thanks to the creation of a user profile when the service is visited for the first time. This is particularly useful when your IT department is migrating large numbers of users.

SSO also gives more control to your organisation by promoting the use of corporate email addresses, which are protected by your organisation’s security policies. Also, in most major services including Projectplace, the implementation of SSO does not prevent the use of mobile apps or security tools such as the two-step verification. It is also inherently more secure than the “remember me” feature as it authenticates the user each time the service is accessed, rather than trusting a cookie held in user computer.

So, how to enable it? Let’s take Projectplace as an example. Foremost, you need to integrate your domain with Projectplace. We use the industry standard SAML for  authentication and authorization. The integration doesn’t take longer than a few hours for you or your IT department. You won’t need any additional tools or subsystems – except if you are using Microsoft’s Active Directory to authenticate users in your network. If so, you will need a component called the Active Directory Federation Services, ADFS. It comes as a free add-on included in the Projectplace package. Our technical support team will help you to enble it.

A clear win-win for users, IT department and security.
